A destination where moments become unforgettable.
The story behind
Named after Frederik the Fifth's queen, Juliane Marie, the hotel was founded in 1861. It quickly became recognized throughout Europe and attracted princes, royalty and the Copenhagen upper class who sought summer life by the Sound. Every week, the local newspaper featured prominent guests, including King Christian the Ninth, his brother Prince Hans, the Russian Tsar and the Prince of Wales.
Crown Prince Frederik, later King Frederik VIII, also granted the hotel privileges to fly a split flag, use the royal crown in its logo and operate Kasino Marienlyst - Denmark's first casino.
